One Massive Update

Well, that was massively longer than one month, sorry about there.

I chose the word Rest as my word of the year after a conversation with my sister. We started asking seriously why it felt so important to get so many things done. We both agreed that there was no reason we needed to make massive goals for the year and try to achieve great things. We both needed a year where we didn't try to do so much. And you know what? It's been lovely.

I've been doing a lot of babysitting, and hanging with family. My dad helped me install a tiny desk in our greenhouse, so now I have a bit of an outside office where I can write, do Bible time, and paint. That has been fantastic!

One of my only big goals for the year has been to spend more time outside. So I've been spending a lot of time out on my hammock, or on my new Slack Line. Y'all, that thing is the best thing ever. I learned to ride my bike without holding the handles (very big accomplishment, I know. XD)

It's been a really good year so far, and it's hard to sum all of it up. I got to go to a young adults retreat, we had the whole family together for Easter, and my friend Hannah let me come to a For King and Country concert with her. Rose and Stewart got married a month ago(!!!), I got to see the new Mario movie in theaters, my sister paid for me to pet a Kangaroo (Beyond epic), we traveled to SC and back for a friend's wedding, saw Anastasia the Broadway play, had a lot of awesome Bible Study nights, danced at a dear friend's wedding, got to see my first Marvel movie in theaters, and with my dad so that was epic. I also got to meet my friend Faith in person for the first time. <3

It hasn't all been good, but it has been good. Losing my dog at the end of the year was a blow at the end of a very long, hard year. But I can tell I'm finally adjusting. Life is falling into a new routine. I'm switching to a different schedule for the summer as I try to find more work for my days, but I am choosing experiences over accomplishments, and just really enjoying what God has brought into my life.

So am I back? Yeah, kind of. Today marks five years since I opened this blog and ten-odd years in the blogging world. Honestly, I don't love it like I used to, so I'm not going to put a lot of my effort into this, but I still might pop in every once in a while with updates. So thank you, even if you don't stick around, for being here. For caring. I'm glad to be here, and I hope to be back soon.

Please tell me how you've been doing below, let's catch up!

    Yay!! Updates!

Rest is a very excellent word. <3

    Rose's wedding was so beautiful!

That's so cool you got to go to a for King and Country concert!! I went to the one in Belton! It was so fun. They were pretty much the last band on the small list of bands I wanted to see in concert so it was a dream come true to get to go. Also, in the parking lot some young girls were giving out little glow sticks and one came up to me and said "you're the chosen one" and gave me a glow stick. It was the cutest thing. XD

Spending time outside is wonderful. Your desk sounds super fun!

Happy blogging anniversary!!! That's a long time. O.O Life does seem to come in seasons sometimes. I love your blog and reading about what's going on in your life, but when seasons change I think people shouldn't be pressured into things that aren't what they need to be spending time on at that point and if for you that thing is blogging I understand. <3 But your blog is one of my very favorites and I'm always excited when I pop in and see a new post! <3 You're so positive and uplifting and honest and your pictures are gorgeous.

  2. Welcome Back Mikayla;
When I opened up your blog I was so happy to see a new post. We have been checking it every once in awhile.
Don't worry if you do not post regularly, once in awhile is okay. It is hard to always know what to write about. I have been doing some yard work. In late Spring we planted Pansies. One is thriving but the others are not, They do not like the heat.
The red rose bush is popping out roses every day and the white one is doing the same. Now that the hot weather has appeared I will not be outside much. The sun and heat are not my friends, When I was 9 years old I was told that I was allergic to the sun Broke out in a rash. Fall is my ally. Trying to declutter but it is not easy. Reading and doing a middle grade Summer reading challenge is fun I am reading for pleasure "Middlemarch" by George Eliot. It is 800 and 11 pages. On page 644 right now.
Rest and enjoy your time with friends and family. Write when you can.I just hope you keep the blog even if it is just once a year.

  3. Hi Mikayla l am it is so good to see a new post on your blog. I have been busy doing things around the house and the front yard. I do the mowing. When I tried to start the mower,it died. Fortunately, we have great neighbors. Two different neighbors have mowed our lawn. I did by a new one,but we have not finished assembling the handle. I purchased four Geraniums and they are thriving since they like the hot weather. Our Lily of The Valley flowers bloom in May and just about finished. I have been teaching myself Gaelic,Latin a few words in French and Spanish. I am brushing up on my Italian, that is the language I took in High School. I am also learning sign language. I bought a bookcase that has to be assembled. We purchased a new desk that has to be assembled. Hopefully soon these projects will get accomplished. Take care and enjoy your Summer. I thrive in the cooler weather of Autumn and Winter. I always enjoy your blog and look forward to hearing from you when you have the time. God Bless.
