February Highlights

It was a very mixed month. In one way it was a very hard month, but I was so blessed by all the things I got to do, and the people I got to be with.

I decided to revive an old hobby of sewing doll dresses. I really enjoyed that, since I haven't sewed anything purely for fun in months. I made a little dress for one of my mom's dolls, and though I doubt I'll have time, I would love to do this more.

We had a fun tea party with teacups, and scones. It was incredibly fun. <3 We used to do this more often, so it was fun to go back and re-visit the tradition. I will not tell you how many scones I ate. XD

I tried my hand at meatballs a while back, but this month my sister gave me a better recipe and now I can make epic meatballs if I do say so myself. I am really trying to expand the number of recipes I make, so far this has been my favorite thing to try.

I spent Valentine's day at work, and that was sweet. I was surrounded by little kids whose whole focus was on the candy. I brought window clings with little animals on them because I know a lot of kids with allergies, but they went over really well! I received several valentines, and one of my favorite kids gave me one saying I was his best friend. <3

It was a very hard month in some ways. I spent a few weeks just wrestling with God, getting support from, and giving support to family and friends. I was so incredibly blessed by how my friends rallied around us and I can see God working in the situation.

I got a cold from the kids at my work, so I had to spend a week at home. This gave me some really good time to process, and just chill at the house. I am tired of being sick, but it comes with working in childcare.

I got to meet with my friend Hannah and show her around Austin, which was really fun because I haven't gotten to see a lot since 2019 before everything shut down. It was great being able to explore it with her! We went to the Central Library, and the Capitol.

We went up for a weekend to see my sister Rose, and got to see some snow! It didn't stick, but it was gorgeous flurrying, and we got to watch it all through lunch. We played lots of games with Rose, got to stay up late talking and go to Starbucks together before we came home.

I have taken up jogging, and have really enjoyed that. I found an app called Zombie Run, which is not as weird as it sounds. It's has a story plot for you to listen to as you run, and every once in a while there are chaises where you have to sprint, and you collect supplies as you walk that you get to use to build a base on your app. It is epic. I rarely buy access to apps, but I paid for a full year of it and have really been enjoying it.

We had a big work day and cleared a lot of deadwood from the woods. It was a lot of hard work, but nice because it means our woods are now a lot nicer to walk in. And to use up some of the wood, we had a hot dog and marshmallow roast!

I have always wanted to Enchanted Rock, which is a big hiking spot in Texas, so my mom and Rebekkah took me. The hike was a lot steeper than I thought it would be, but aside from some muscles dying on the way up, it was great and the view was worth it. I would definitely love to go back there on a less busy day and just sit at the top for longer. The cover photo of this post is from our hike there!

My favorite new read was Grace by Contract, but I also LOVED Keep it Shut. My only re-reads were the Robot Wars, and they were fun. =)

Girl Meets World: A friend of mine introduced me to this a year ago, and I felt like it deserved a second chance. It's not the best, but certainly better than most Disney shows. I love the characters. <3

A-team: My sister and I watched an episode of those for old time's sake. It really did bring back memories. Not a great show, but some funny points.

Maya the Bee 3: I watched the first two movies with the kids I watch, and when I got sick, I decided I wanted to see the conclusion of the movies.

Bad Hair Day: I ended up enjoying it much more then I thought. It was cute, and the characters were fun. Maybe not a new favorite, but sweet.

How to build a better boy: I did not enjoy this at all. While it was clean, it lacked any good storyplot. I also thought the ending was fairly disappointing.

  2. Hi Mikayla, Thank you for the update. You had a busy February. Glad you are feeling better. My sister Marion and I cleaned up the front yard. There were a lot of leaves left over from the Fall. I just finished reading the tenth book in the Mitford series. I have three more books to read to finish the series. I also finished a cozy mystery,Gooseberry Cove Kiss N'Tell book 4 in the series.. I am going to start reading an Irish book for Saint Patrick's Day.

    1. I haven't started cleaning out the leaves from our land yet, but I need to start in on that. It's such a satisfying feeling, isn't it?
Ohh, how fun! I love Saint Patricks Day, but haven't read anything special on it for awhile. Noramlly I just listen to the Adventures in Oddessy about St. Patrick. =)

  3. Hi Mikayla;
Love your post. February was busy putting up and then removing the Valentine decorations. When that was done it was time to decorate for ST.Patrick's Day. As Marilyn told you we cleaned up the front yard. Marilyn had purchased Pansies and they were put out in front. They like the cooler weather . I finished reading ST.Bernadette her life story and then Kelegeen. I am now reading the sequel to Kelegeen Erin's Children. It is about the struggle of the Irish in Ireland and the bigotry they endured in America. We have started listening and watching our Irish music and videos.
    Stay well and safe.

  4. Hi!
I realized today that now that we don't live in the same house (cue sobbing) reading your blog will tell me a lot about what you've been up to.
I love how you do your months in review. I might have to steal this idea for my blog.
